I should be working, but as usual I spent some time on games again. While I was playing some older titles lately I tried to think about the biggest disappointments I had have with some titles. So as a follow on the post about most atomspheric gamesI thought it would be cool to release a list of the most disappointing games I ever played. This list can contain any game which didn’t meet the expectations I had so it must not be a really bad game but simply a disappointment either because it was really bad or because I had different expectations, so let’s go.

Chrome Did anyone play this game? The question should be did anyone play this game till end? I didn’t. I bought this game since it was offered for a good price on Steam but I had to force myself to continue after every mission. It was disappointing. The first few missions were cool. But after the third mission I think it was everything the same again. I hated the mission were you needed to use the stealth technique since it was even on easy to difficult (maybe I’m not a very good gamer at all). But again. Did anyone enjoy this game? This game is not only disappointing but also boring and simply not worth the money. |

Daikatana I had big expectations on this one. To me personally, John Romero is a god in the whole industry. But this one was not necessary. I personally don’t care if a game is delayed for some months, I don’t even care if a game is released a year or two after the official release date. Often delays occur not only in the game industry. And after all the rumors and information I was afraid and bought this game immediately. Sure the german game press tested it and I read all the articles, previews and scopes about Daikatana but for those of you who know the german game press, you know that you better test it for yourself. So sadly this game didn’t meet any of my expectations. It was buggy, it had bad level design, the sidekicks didn’t work as exected and so on. |

Unreal 2: The Awakening Surprisingly Unreal 2 was one of the most disappointing games I ever played. I remember that day when I first played Unreal and was kind of fascinated about its graphics and the story and everything. I couldn’t wait the second part to play. The day when I installed Unreal 2 and played it, I first was bored, then I got bored more and at least I was simply disappointed. Did I have the wrong expectations? Or was it really boring? Don’t start the discussion about sequels. Unlike movies game sequels usually are better. |

Far Cry 2 Yeah this was kind of boring game. I bought this game on Steam since it was offered for a good price (I thought) and started immediately playing it. I liked loved part one since it still has great graphics (amazing visuals to be honest) and a tight atmosphere. Now after a short cutscene the game started and again I was impressed how great this game looked. The graphics were amazing. But the more I played the more I got bored. Example: I had to finish a mission. To reach my mission location I had to cross whole Africa. At first I liked it since the game looks awesome but with every additional mission you get bored riding a vehicle over 20 minutes through Africa without any action. More examples? You drive with you vehicle through an outpost and kill everyone there. When returning from a mission you have to kill the bad guys again? The malaria feature was funny at the beginning but after a while it was simply annoying. |

OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast I once again was influenced from big names and told myself, hey I grew up with Sega arcade games so give this a try. Ahm okay I must admit it’s a long time since I played arcade games and I usually die for old arcade games but this arcade racer is simply boring. All of the racing modes are boring and the rest is history. In my opinion an arcade game doesn’t need latest graphics or stuff like that. It simply needs the arcade feeling. OutRun 2006 doesn’t has that feeling. |

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising This one is the first Operation Flashpoint title I ever played and definitely the last. I don’t know what I did expect when buing this game. It was offered on www.steampowered.com for a good price and I thought let’s get it. It was a mistake. And definitely one of the games I never will play until end. |

Painkiller: Resurrection Didn’t see this one coming… I was a big fan of Painkiller. But this one is crap. It’s not only a disappointing game but not worth being called a game. Save your money and donate it to a free game out there instead of buying this one. www.metacritics.com gave this game 38 points. I would go under 30 to describe it exactly. |

Soldier of Fortune Can this be true? I can hardly remember what this game was about. It was not disappointing because it was bad. No. It was so disappointing because it was so boring. If we would start a toplist of most boring games (and we will start one) than this game will be for sure on top 3. |

Beyond Good and Evil I bought this game since it was best price on Steam AND scored 83 on www.metacricitics.com . Wow it was a bad game. Disappointing in any way. I still didn’t play this game until its end. I don’t think I ever will. Where to start? Story looked interesting and promising. The rest is simply disappointing. Bad menu controls. Game feels like sound and game scenes are not synced. No prob, I found some workarounds for this. First five minutes… boring. Next five minutes… boring. First fight… boring. After 20 minutes more than boring. |

Prey Didn’t see this one coming. I had big expectations on this title. Not only because it used id tech but also because it was a nice story. You can walk over the ceiling and other nice advanced features rounded up that package. The game has a nice intro rendered with the engine. All the rest is simply disappointing². Boring, boring, boring, boring, boring. Why do games like this get 83 on www.metacritics.com ? |
Again, the games in this list must not be bad and can be very good games at all, but they are for the written reasons a disappointment to me. Have fun….
